  • Backlot on Bonna 5635 Bonna Avenue Indianapolis, Indiana, 46219 United States (map)

4th Wall is proud to partner once again with Backlot on Bonna to bring you our second Irvington Halloween Festival show! Another original script looking into the real story behind the tragedy of Lenore!

Summary of show: "The Fate of Lenore", an original one-act tragedy by Brenton Williamson. Tagline: Nevermore. Summary: Twice does Edgar Allen Poe reference the mysterious "Lost Lenore" in his works. Twice, he declines to tell her story. The story of how Nona, the spinner of the threads of fate, gave up her immortality for love of a mortal man, and withered away in want of love in return. She must seek the guidance of her two immortal sisters and find a way to spin a thread of life for herself and write her own story before fading into memory.

Cast List/Descriptions: (All characters are described in terms of their own age and gender. Any actor may be considered for any role, and will be cast based on their ability to portray the character.)

LENORE: A young woman. Mythical being made flesh. Amalgamation of the Maiden of the triple goddess, Clotho of the Greek fates, the spinner of threads. Archetype representing youth and childhood, beginnings and new life. She gave up unchanging archetypal immortality for mortal life out of love for GUY DE VERE, and a desire to grow, change, and be her own person. Passionate, longs to have a life of her own. Fading away as her wedding approaches.

GUY DE VERE: Young or middle-aged man. Lenore's fiancee. Romantic, poetic, hasty, only hears what he wants to hear. Tends to idealize, rather than accept reality.

EDGAR: Middle-aged or older man. GUY DE VERE's friend. Equally clueless and romantic, though slightly more in touch with reality.

THE RAVEN: A messenger of the gods. Harbinger, truth-teller,, deliverer of fates, straddling the mortal and divine realms, as well as the living and the dead. (Very few lines, but constantly present on stage.)

DECIMA: The middle of the three fates. Archetypal spirit of female adulthood. One of the three witches or fates. Lachesis, the measurer of life threads. Compassionate, yet inflexible.

MORTA: The eldest of the three fates. Archetypal spirit of age, wisdom, and judgement. Atropos, the cutter of threads. Stern, cold, and unforgiving.
